Coming up: Embedded youTube videos

UPDATE: This feature is now available to everybody :D

Hello and sorry for not updating this blog for a while.

As the title says, I’m working on a new feature for Last.fm Social and that’s embedding youtube videos in the place of where the album art usually appears! Now that’s pretty cool because you and your friends can listen to the track right there on your facebook wall. It looks like this:

And when you click on play it opens up the youtube video just like when you share youTube videos manually:

Pretty neat eh?

Now all this is very beta mostly because the app tries to match the artist and title of the track to the title of the youTube video.  So expect some false matches here and there. If the app doesn’t find a video it falls back to the album art.

Now this feature is eventually going to be available for all users but initially this is going to be available only for users who have supported the app by making a small donation. If you would like to try out this feature in advance of the official release (in a month or so from now), please consider making a small donation here.

I am also working on privacy options, which is something a few of you have asked for but don’t have an ETA for now. Stay tuned for more.

Lastfmsocial.com is the only app that connects your last.fm to your facebook.

  • I would modify YT searching a little bit, when specific version of the song, eg (XYZ Remix) or (Radio Version) etc. is not available on YT then better use main version instead of iTunes link ;)

  • thanks for your work!
embedding youtube videos is a great idea. sometimes. the sometimes posted live videos are not really listenable when poorly recorded. so would it therefore be possible to also link to the last.fm track page?
